The Big Nine Allergens
The United States Food and Drug Association (FDA) recognizes nine major food allergens. What makes them "major" allergens? 90 percent of food allergies and serious allergic reactions result from at least one of the nine. For the health and safety of consumers, the FDA imposes strict production and labeling standards for foods that contain or are produced in facilities that handle any of the Big Nine allergens.
These are the nine major food allergens currently acknowledged by the FDA:

- Tree nuts
- Eggs
- Peanuts
- Fish
- Wheat
- Shellfish
- Soybeans
- Sesame

Honey Acres handles ZERO out of nine major allergens and is certified gluten-free
You can confidently enjoy Honey Acres products, knowing they don't contain any Big Nine allergens. The ingredients in our honeys, chocolates, spreads, and mustards are free from any potential allergens, thanks to the care and precision throughout our production chain. As a Safe Quality Food (SQF) certified facility, we adhere to rigorous standards for our internal allergen control processes and the processes of our external suppliers. We are also proud to be certified gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO).
Internal safety measures
Internal good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and allergen and gluten control procedures required by SQF code prevent allergen and glute cross-contamination within our facility. Our employees receive allergen and gluten control training upon hire and annually thereafter and are well-trained in how to prevent accidental cross-contamination.
In addition, our shipping and receiving procedures ensure all incoming shipments are quarantined and inspected prior to release into the facility to ensure no allergen- or gluten-containing items are accidentally received into our production areas.
External safety measures
Our SQF program also requires the highest food safety and quality standards from our suppliers, including the vetting and continuous monitoring of all external suppliers. We have a rigorous supplier approval program that requires vendors to supply detailed information about their facilities, allergen and gluten control policies, and GMPs.
We require detailed product documentation to accompany each shipment of ingredients and packaging, and annually update all raw material specifications and allergen statements. In addition, every shipment is accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis (CoA), which documents critical information for each product batch.
